NBC will be eventizing holiday series The Sing-Off by packing all of its latest round air into a single night, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sources say the network confirmed these plans for the series’ fifth iteration which should air on December 17th.
For those unfamiliar with the show, it consists of six groups of singers who compete for the first-place prize of $50,000. The judges will be veterans Jewel and Shawn Stockman. The two will also be accompanied by Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy and heartthrob, Nick Lachey.
Sony Pictures Television is set to produce the series, as well as Mark Burnett’s new joint venture with MGM and Hearst, United Artists Media Group, the cappella competition first aired in 2009 as a four-part series, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The Sing-Off will join NBC’s other holiday specials, by following up last year’s hit production of The Sound of Music with Peter Pan on December 4th.
