This past Monday, FOX released an extended trailer in honor of the 35th season of the beloved animated show, The Simpsons. The show is the longest running primetime series in television history as well as the longest-running program on FOX. Via CNN Entertainment, “Feeling worthless at work, Homer volunteers to be a crossing guard… But when his safety squad receives too much funding, the crossing guards become a force to be feared in the all-new ‘Homer’s Crossing’ episode of The Simpsons.”
The Simpsons, as fans see it today, has been on Fox since 1989, but previously aired on The Tracey Ullman Show as a short in 1987. The series takes place in Springfield, USA, although the state remains unknown to fans. The Simpson family is an exaggerated satirical take on the typical American family. There are a plethora of characters inside the world of The Simpsons; main characters Homer, voiced by Dan Castellaneta (Aladdin), his wife Marge voiced by Julie Kavner (Rhoda), son Bart voiced by Nancy Cartwright (Rugrats), and daughter Lisa voiced by Yeardley Smith (Maximum Overdrive). The character list is long but many of the voice-actors play multiple characters. Castellaneta additionally voices Krusty the Clown, Grampa Simpson, and Mayor Quimby. Kavner brings life to more than just Marge, but her mother, Jaqueline Bouvier, and sisters Patty and Selma. Nancy Cartwright voices Ralph, Todd Flanders, Bart’s baby sister Maggie, and his bully Nelson.
The 35th season of The Simpsons premieres on October 1. The season features just as much comedy and exaggerated dramatic action sequences. Throughout the new season, according to CNN Entertainment, “… Marge experiences a series of nightmares about young Bart’s childhood coming to an end; Homer accidentally volunteers for a school crossing guard position; sixty years in the future, Lisa recounts the story of how Homer was scapegoated for a power outage that plunged Springfield into darkness days before Thanksgiving…”
The series created by Matt Groenig (Futurama), now on its 35th season, is available to watch on Disney+ and Hulu with a subscription.
