‘The Simpsons’ Do Star Wars… With a Touch of Quahog!

The Simpsons will celebrate Mother’s Day with a new Star Wars special, May The 12th Be With You, in the most unorthodox way. According to Comicbook, the Disney+ special will display a fateful encounter with the Griffins from Family Guy. In the short, there are various references to the classic sci-fi film, such as the Jedi robes and lightsabers to iconic characters like Chewbacca and Ahsoka.

This isn’t the first time the Griffins have crossed paths with the Simpsons. Back in season 13 an episode titled “The Simpsons Guy” brought the two families together, via Comicbook. The episode ended with Peter and Homer bruised after fighting against one another and walking into the sunset.

According to Comicbook, the new animated short is available to stream on Disney+ and is described as the following: “It’s Mother’s Day and Marge Simpson joins the moms of Disney+ on a special holiday outing that turns into an epic galactic adventure filled with heroes, villains and a surprising old friend.” In addition to the Griffins, the short includes various Disney heroes and villains in this Mother’s Day mashup.

This is the third time The Simpsons have converged with the Star Wars universe. According to Comicbook, Maggie Simpson explored the galaxy far, far away in 2023’s Rogue Not Quite One. She was also the main character in 2021’s The Force Awakens From Its Nap.

The specials highlight the enduring popularity of both animated sitcoms and the Star Wars franchise. It could also hint at a future crossover and interaction between characters. This special is a reminder to the viewers that both of the shows are far from over and are always experimenting and creating new material to appeal to a wider audience.

The special is currently streaming on Disney+. Catch new episodes of The Simpsons on Sundays on Fox and streaming next day on Hulu.
