A day before its third season premiere, Apple TV has renewed Jason Segel’s (How I Met Your Mother, Forgetting Sarah Marshall) comedy drama, Shrinking. The series, created by Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Bad Monkey), follows a grieving therapist who begins to repair his emotional rut by delivering unorthodox advice to his clients.
In addition to Segel, the cast boasts Harrison Ford (What Lies Beneath, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) in his first TV show, along with Jessica Williams (Love Life, Tunnel Rave), Luke Tennie (Abbott Elementary, Nickel Boys), Christa Miller (Scrubs, The Drew Carey Show), Michael Urie (Ugly Betty, Krapopilis), Lukita Maxwell (Afraid, The Young Wife), Ted McGinley (The Baxters, Mom) and Wendi Malick (Skincare, Young Sheldon). This past season saw the additions of Damon Wayans Jr., (Poppa’s House, Happy Endings), Cobie Smulders (How I Met Your Mother, Marvel’s Secret Invasion) and co-creator Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso, Thor: Love and Thunder).
Season two saw Segel’s Jimmy reach two milestones: meeting a potential love interest in Smulders, and beginning to forgive the man responsible for the devastating loss. Season three will construct new storylines with two major special guest stars. As Paul’s (Ford) Parkinson’s grows worse, he will seek guidance from guest star Michael J. Fox (Spin City, Teen Wolf) who lives with the disease in real life. And somewhere this season, Jimmy’s father will re-enter the picture, portrayed by Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom, Arachnophobia).
Created by Lawrence, Segel and Goldstein, the Emmy-nominated comedy is produced for Apple TV by Warner Bros. Television along with Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. All three co-creators are executive producers along with Neil Goldman (Playdate, House Broken), James Ponsoldt (Running Point, Summering), Jeff Ingold (Ted Lasso, Clone High), Liza Katzer (Ted Lasso, Bad Monkey), Randall Winston (Mixed-ish, Grace and Frankie), Rachna Fruchbom (And Just Like That, Santa Inc), Brian Gallivan (Friends-In Law, Future Man), Ashley Nicole Black (Bad Monkey, Ted Lasso) and Bill Posley (Happy Mart, B Word).
The 11-episode season premieres tomorrow, January 28, with episodes releasing each Wednesday through April 8.
