According to Deadline , The Sex Lives of College Girls has officially come to an end. Warner Bros. Television confirmed the series won’t continue after Max canceled it following its third season and efforts to relocate it failed.
The comedy, co-created by Mindy Kaling (The Mindy Project, Never Have I Ever) and Justin Noble (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Grinder), was shopped to other platforms after its cancellation last month. Talks were held with Netflix, but according to Deadline, a deal was unlikely due to global rights complications.
“We were very much hoping to find a new home for that one, and I think we’ve now come to the end of the road, which is disappointing, because it’s a show that we really love,” said Warner Bros. TV Group Chairman Channing Dungey in an interview with Deadline.
“I’m so proud of the three seasons that we did at Max but I don’t think there’s going to be more of College Girls,” Dungey added.
Despite a dedicated fanbase and notable critical attention, the series faced increasing challenges in a shrinking landscape for original television comedy. “As Deadline reported,” the series’ global licensing and streaming rights made transitioning to another platform extremely difficult.
The series starred Pauline Chalamet (The King of Staten Island, The Sex Lives of College Girls), Amrit Kaur (The D Cut, The Sex Lives of College Girls), and Alyah Chanelle Scott (Reboot, The Sex Lives of College Girls), among others. Season three also featured new additions Gracie Lawrence and Mia Rodgers.
Original cast member Reneé Rapp (Mean Girls: The Musical, The Sex Lives of College Girls) departed a few episodes into the most recent season. Her exit coincided with larger changes in the show’s structure and tone.
Noble had remained optimistic after the cancellation, expressing concern about the decline of comedy on television. “I can’t help but mention that it feels like there are fewer and fewer comedy series every month — and we are living in an era where we need that comedy badly,” he wrote on Instagram.
“So I really hope that turns around, but I will always be proud of this show for being the things that we weren’t seeing enough of: a hard comedy ensemble where ladies get the jokes,” Noble added via a Deadline article.
The show’s conclusion signals a broader industry shift as networks and streamers continue trimming scripted content. Kaling’s existing ties to Netflix weren’t enough to secure a last-minute deal for the collegiate comedy.
Though its journey has ended, The Sex Lives of College Girls leaves behind a legacy of bold humor and female-driven storytelling that struck a chord with Gen Z viewers.
