Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming series, The Sandman, and has announced the show’s premiere date of August 5th. The unveiling of the trailer and release date announcement were both done during day 1 of Netflix’s Geeked Week.
The Sandman will star Tom Sturridge (Far From The Madding Crowd), Gwendoline Christie (Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens), Vivienne Acheampong (We The Jury), and the new trailer revealed that Mark Hamill (Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back) will also be joining the cast. The upcoming series is based on the popular comic book series written by Neil Gaiman (American Gods).
Other cast members in the series include Boyd Holbrook (The Predator), Charles Dance (The King’s Man), David Thewlis (Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban), Jenna Coleman (The Cry), Stephen Fry (V For Vendetta), Patton Oswalt (The King Of Queens), Joely Richardson (The Aspern Papers), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Goodness Gracious Me), and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Why Women Kill).
Netflix also unveiled character posters for The Sandman.
The show will be a limited series that will span 10 episodes. According to Deadline, the show is described as a “rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven.” The show follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he tries to fix all the cosmic and human mistakes he’s made during his vast existence.
The Sandman will be executive produced by Gaiman, Allan Heinberg (Wonder Woman), and David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight). Heinberg and Goyer will also serve as co-writers for the series. The show will be produced by Warner Bros. Television.
