The Rings of Power has delved deep into the lore of J.R.R. Tolkien’s (The Fellowship of the Ring) Middle-Earth, but one character has remained elusive: Tom Bombadil, who will be played by Rory Kinnear (Black Mirror). The second season will follow where the previous one ends with the identity of Sauron revealed, the forging of the three rings and the creation of Mordor.According to Screenrant, the series showrunners, J.D. Payne (Escape) and Patrick McKay (Uprising), talk about the characters’ roles in the upcoming second season as well as whether Tom Bombadil will become Middle-Earth’s greatest deity. Their responses to the news outlet, which is below, have been cautious.
McKay: And I think people asked that of Tolkien himself. Tolkien chose to remain silent on it and so shall we.
According to Screenrant, Tom Bombadil’s journey is entangled with The Stranger, played by Daniel Weyman (The Happy Prince), who could play a vital role in the wizard’s development by playing a mentor. This will also lead to the upcoming war that follows from the events from the previous season. Kinnear will surely make a wonderful addition to the cast, which includes Morfydd Clark (Saint Maud) as Galandrial, Robert Aramayo (Game of Thrones) as Elrond and Charlie Vickers (The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart) as Sauron.
The new season could showcase other easter eggs from the previous installments.According to Screenrant, Tolkien has never definitively answered who Tom Bomdalbi is. However, his long-awaited debut was even addressed by the most dedicated fans of the franchise. There are currently five episodes of the second season available to watch on Prime Video, with a new episode released every Thursday. The entire first season is also available to watch on the same platform.
