The widely acclaimed Netflix series Black Mirror has just announced its expected return to screens this summer on June 15th. Charlie Booker (Cunk on Earth), the creator and showrunner, has just released a new trailer to hype up fans for the return of the beloved series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the newly installed sixth season will contain five episodes, meaning a longer season that the fifth season from the summer of 2019. Brooker has described this new season to contain, “crazy swings and more variety than ever before.” He describes his project to have “stretched the parameters” of the possibilities in the new episodes and said, “I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people (and myself) or else what’s the point? It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself. So partly as a challenge, and partly to keep things fresh for both me and the viewer, I began this season by deliberately upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect.”
Episode descriptions have also been released, creating excitement over the new storylines. These episodes and descriptions include:
Loch Henry: “A young couple travel to a sleepy Scottish town to start work on a genteel nature documentary – but find themselves drawn to a juicy local story involving shocking events of the past.”
Joan is Awful: “An average woman is stunned to discover a global streaming platform has launched a prestige TV drama adaptation of her life — in which she is portrayed by Hollywood A-lister Salma Hayek.”
Mazey Day: “A troubled starlet is dogged by invasive paparazzi while dealing with the consequences of a hit-and-run incident.”
The cast lineup is also another feat to be excited about as it includes big names such as Salma Hayek Pinault (Frida), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and Rory Culkin (Lords of Chaos).
