More wild adventures from the Prouds are coming to Disney+. According to Deadline, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will be returning for a second season on the streamer. The news comes days before the season finale streams on Wednesday. The second season has also started production.
A revival of the original 2000s Disney Channel animated series, Louder and Prouder picks up from the original series, now set in a modern 2020s setting. The series follows a now 14-year-old Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt) and her wild, but lovable family: her parents Oscar (Tommy Davidson) and Trudy (Paula Jai Parker), her twin siblings Bebe and Cece (Bresha Webb), and her grandmother Sugar Mama (JoMarie Payton) and her dog Puff. She is also support by her crew of friends Dijonay (Karen Malina White), Zoey (Soleil Moon Frye), LaCienega (Alisa Reyes), and Michael (E.J. Johnson), and her new friends Maya (Keke Palmer) and KJ (Artist “A Boogie” Dubose).
The entire season one principal cast is expected to return for season two, and they will be backed by a star-studded guest cast. Guest-starring in season two will be Gabrielle Union (Cheaper by the Dozen), Normani, Leslie Odom Jr. (One Night in Miami), Anthony Anderson (black-ish), and Jane Lynch (Glee) among more confirmed by Deadline.
Season one saw the Proud Family navigating a 2020s setting as Penny experiences the highs and lows of becoming a young woman as she finishes middle school. Season one will conclude on Wednesday, and it has received critical acclaim. Just like the original series, the first season did not shy away from current issues such as race, same-sex marriage, and toxic masculinity.
A release date has not been confirmed for season 2.
