‘The Pitt’ Takes The Television Critics Awards By Storm

According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO Max’s series The Pitt took the Television Critics Awards by storm, winning four awards. In addition to winning the night’s top honor, Program of the Year, the series also took home Outstanding Drama, Outstanding New Program, and actor and executive producer Noah Wyle (ER, A Few Good Men) won the individual award for Drama. The Pitt went four for four in the categories for which it was nominated.

 

The Hollywood Reporter reports that the TCA’s summer press tour was cancelled, so in lieu of an in-person award show, the TCA’s YouTube page posted pre-recorded acceptance speeches from the winners.

 

Via The Hollywood Reporter, in the comedy genre, The Studio, another newcomer, won the award for Outstanding Comedy Program. Although it did not win the individual award, which went to Bridgette Everertt (Patti Cake$, Little Evil) . Rounding out the other genres were Adolescence, which won best limited series or television movie, and 2024 winner The Traitors, which went back-to-back for outstanding reality series.

 

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kathy Bates (Misery, Titanic) was awarded the Career Achievement Award. Sesame Street, a previous winner of the best children’s program award, was given the Heritage Award, given to a program whose legacy is felt throughout television.

 

The Hollywood Reporter reports that TCA president Andy Dehnart released a statement about the winning programs. “Each of these TCA Award winners not only entertained us, but also immersed us in the lives of characters, both fictional and real-life. We’re thrilled to honor them,” He expounded about the TCA’s place in the annals of television, “TCA exists to support our members’ work and celebrate TV’s role in our culture, and with these awards and accompanying videos, we’re doing both.”
