According to Deadline, in the latest season two teaser of HBO Max’s The Pitt, the camera quickly pans to an infant patient inside the Pittsburgh trauma center. Creator Scott R. Gemmill (NCIS: Los Angeles, The Unit) spoke to a panel at the Writers Guild of America about this storyline and how it will last throughout the full season.
“Some genius came up with an idea of what to do with a baby this year, over 15 hours. That’s a whole season. You’ve got to use multiple babies. They can only work for 20 minutes…By the time the shift is over, which will be in January, this baby’s going to be walking to craft service by himself,” Gemmill joked via Deadline.
This won’t be the first time the Emmy-nominated series has centered on small children to help move the story along. According to Deadline, during the first season, in an episode titled “2 p.m.”, they focused on a young child who drowned and the impact it had on the young child’s 4-year-old sibling. This episode is nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Writing Drama category. Gemmill continued and shared the various challenges that come with working with babies on set.
“I’m going through many babies this year,” Gemmill said, according to Deadline. “So if you know anyone who’s pregnant and they want to have their baby on TV, please come see us.”
According to Deadline, The Pitt is up for multiple Emmys in 2025, including Outstanding Drama, Noah Wyle (A Dolphin in Our Lake, At The Gates) for Outstanding Actor, Joe Sachs (NCIS: Los Angeles, Off The Map) for Outstanding Writing – Drama, and Gemmill for the pilot. It also scored two Outstanding Supporting Actor noms for Katherine La Nada (Daredevil: Born Again, Love Is All You Need?) and Shawn Hatosy (Law & Order, Chicago P.D.).
HBO Max will release season two of The Pitt in January 2026.
