Ted, Peacock’s prequel series starring Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad, The Orville) as the comedic bear, is now officially renewed for a second season, Comicbook.com reports. The series, based on the film franchise, is currently one of the most-watched originals on the streamer since its release four months ago. Fans were waiting for news on the fate of the series since they saw its huge spike in popularity across that time frame. Furthermore, the show has also broken another record: it’s now the top-rated original comedy created for streaming for more than two months in a row.
According to Comicbook.com, here are other records the series broke when it was released internationally: Ted was the biggest U.S. comedy launch in the U.K. in over 20 years, specifically for the private cable network Sky; in Australia, the series became FOX8’s #1 international series premiere in the past two years, and, furthermore, the biggest U.S. comedy launch for the streaming service BINGE. Finally, in Canada, the comedy show became the number one series on the streamer Showcase, as it also held the number one ranking in the show category for STACKTV (VOD) as season one episodes were released.
Ted, according to Comicbook.com, was reviewed well by critics and fans alike, as it scored the percentual of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes. That is statistically 3% higher than what the first Ted movie earned on its release in theaters back in June 2012, and 30% more than the second movie Ted 2 ever did. The audience score for the series was at 90%.
The series is not the only one that has been renewed for a second season on Peacock. Others include Poker Face, Bel-Air, Twisted Metal, Wolf Like Me, and Dr. Death. There are also more originals to come, according to Comicbook.com, including Those About to Die (July 18), Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, Teacup, Hysteria!, and The Day of the Jackal, which is set to release at the end of the year.
For who hasn’t seen this show yet, the official synopsis is written below, via Comicbook.com:
“In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.”
The Ted prequel series is created by MacFarlane, who also stars in it, alongside Alanna Ubach (Coco, Legally Blonde, Hung), Max Burkholder (Parenthood, The Purge, Daddy Day Care), Giorgia Whigham (The Punisher, The Orville, Scream), and Scott Grimes (The Orville, American Dad, Oppenheimer), via Comicbook.com.
The first season of Ted is available to stream on Peacock.
