The season three midseason finale of the fantasy drama The Outpost arrives on The CW on January 3, according to TV Line. After the program received its October renewal order, a rep for The CW referred to the next set of episodes in production as thirteen additional installments in the third season, as reported by Deadline.
The midseason finale’s official episode description indicates that the characters will be faced with a potentially fatal decision: “The Outpost becomes overrun and Talon (Jessica Green, Rise) and Zed (Reese Ritchie, Desert Dancer) return with an unexpected ally. Facing total defeat, a sacrifice is seen as the only hope,” via TV Guide. The episode, titled “Violence is Futile,” comes on the heels of the season’s first permanent character death. Baron Tobin Aegisford (Aaron Fontaine, The Naked Poet) was killed while trying to protect Baroness Fallista (Georgia May Foote, Coronation Street: Tram Crash) during the attack on the outpost by Yavalla (Jaye Griffiths, Doctors) and her infected Hive, according to Ready Steady Cut. Anand Desai-Barochia (Bridgerton, The Tiger Hunter), who plays the alchemist Janzo, joked on his Instagram that he wanted to hear fans’ predictions about who they believe won’t make it to the end of the midseason finale.

The Outpost was subject to a major time-slot change in the middle of season three. Thursdays had been the show’s domain since its second season. The first six episodes of season three, like the first four episodes of season two, occupied a Thursday 9 P.M. time-slot, according to the TV Series Finale database. However, from episode seven onward, The Outpost began airing on Sundays at 9 P.M., via The Futon Critic. The time-slot change was allegedly motivated by declining audience numbers for the second season of the sci-fi series Pandora, scheduled to air on Sundays at 8 P.M., via TV Series Finale. While Pandora enjoyed stable ratings and an incremental increase in its overall audience share as a result of The Outpost‘s Sunday night switch, the fantasy drama lost approximately 43,000 audience members, ShowBuzz Daily reports.
