‘The Offer’: Colin Hanks, Giovanni Ribisi, and Don Fogler Have All Been Cast in Limited Series About the Making of ‘The Godfather’

Everything is falling into place as The Offer, the upcoming Paramount+ limited series based upon the making of the 1972 film The Godfather, rounds out its cast. It was announced on Wednesday that Colin Hanks (Fargo), Don Fogler (Hannibal) and Giovanni Ribisi (Sneaky Pete) have all joined the series, as reported by Variety

The 1972 classic film The Godfather directed by Francis Ford Coppola (Apocalypse Now) is often considered one of the greatest films of all time. Al Pacino (Dog Day Afternoon), James Caan (Theif), Diane Keaton (Annie Hall), Robert Duvall (Newsies)and Marlon Brando (A Streetcar Named Desire) all starred in the film, and it won three Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Detailing the lives of the Corleone crime family, the stories of behind-the-scene drama taking place on set is almost as famous as the on-screen drama.The Offer will be based upon the experiences producer Albert S. Ruddy had during the making of the film. 

Ribisi has been cast in a starring role as the mob boss Joe Colombo. According to Variety, Colombo was famous in the world of crime: “In addition to running one of the notorious Five Families of the American Mafia, Colombo also founded the Italian-American Civil Rights League.” A long career in both film and television, Ribisi is known for his leading role in the Amazon Prime Video series Sneaky Pete. He’s also appeared on the NBC sitcom My Name is Earl and the Fox series Dads. His film credits include Saving Private Ryan, Avatar, A Million Ways to Die in the West, and A Million Little Pieces. 

Hanks has been cast in the role of Barry Lapidus, a powerful Gulf & Western executive at Paramount Pictures. Son of actor Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump) and Rita Wilson (It’s Complicated), Hanks has already had a prolific career. Starring in various television series, he’s known for his roles in the FX series Fargo, AMC’s Mad Men, and the Showtime series Dexter. 

And last but not least, Fogler will be stepping into the shoes of Coppola himself. In addition to directing the film, Coppola also adapted and co-wrote the script alongside the author of the book, Mario Puzo, winning them both Oscars. Fogler can be seen in AMC’s The Walking Dead, the NBC series Hannibal, and ABC’s The Goldbergs.

Miles Teller (Whiplash) will star in the series as producer Ruddy. He replaced the previously cast Armie Hammer (Call Me By Your Name) after the actor was met with controversy earlier this year. Matthew Goode (A Discovery of Witches) has also beeen cast in a starring role as Robert Evans, the producer and studio executive. The Offer is written and executive produced by Nikki Toscano (Hunters), who will also be the series showrunner.
