Per Deadline, Netflix has announced the premiere date and released a teaser for the upcoming second season of The Night Agent. Gabriel Basso (The Red Road, The Big C) will return as protagonist Peter Sutherland on January 23, 2025.
The ten new episodes were shot primarily in New York City, with additional filming done in Thailand and Washington D.C. Ahead of its second season premiere, the series was renewed for a third season early last month. As Deadline previously reported, shooting for the third season is set to begin in Istanbul at the end of this year, followed by a New York shoot in 2025.
Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk (Dead Man Switch, The 500), The Night Agent‘s first season follows low-level FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who is propelled into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office. The season finale saw Peter take off from D.C. in a private jet on his first mission as a Night Action spy. The second season picks up as he’s shooting through the streets of an Asian city before he is seen against New York’s skyline in subsequent episodes.
Luciane Buchanan (Under the Vines, Beyond the Veil) will be returning as cybersecurity entrepreneur Rose Larkin. Basso will also be joined by new series regular Amanda Warren (East New York, Gossip Girl), who will play Catherine Weaver, a veteran of the top-secret Night Action investigative program, who trains and oversees various Night Agents, including Peter. Smart, private and determined, Catherine is a fierce defender of her agents, but finds it difficult to earn Peter’s trust when he struggles with betrayal issues from his experiences during the first season.
In addition to Warren, the second season features several new cast members. Berto Colon (The Penguin, The Equalizer) plays Solomon, a former Marine turned right-hand man/fixer for a powerful businessman. Louis Herthum (Quantum Leap, The Peripheral) plays Jacob Monroe, an international businessman with powerful global connections that he uses to obtain valuable information. Arienne Mandi (In the Vault, NCIS) plays Noor, a low-level aide in the Iranian mission to the United Nations in New York who is looking to leverage her access to top-secret information into a better life for herself and her family. Brittany Snow (Not Dead Yet, Almost Family) plays Alice, Peter’s partner and mentor, in his first assignment in Night Action. Matthew Sears (Resident Alien, So Help Me Todd) plays Warren, a high-level intelligence officer who becomes the subject of a Night Action investigation.
Marwan Kenzari (Penoza, Van God Ios), Elise Kibler (Younger, Daredevil) and Dikran Tulaine (Dante, The Walking Dead) will also guest star in season two.
The series is created, showrun and executive produced by Shawn Ryan (Timeless, The Get Down) through his MiddKid Productions banner. In past interviews, Ryan has spoken about how each season will be a self-contained story, opening the door to new plot lines and characters with each go-round.
The Night Agent is a Sony Pictures Television production. Apart from Ryan, other credited executive producers include David Beaubaire (Fatherhood), Seth Gordon (The Goldbergs, Atypical), Julia Gunn (Rita Rocks, United We Fall), Marney Hochman (Mad Dogs, Last Resort) and William Sherak (Are We There Yet?, Dawn Anna).
