As TV Line reports, the upcoming Blue Bloods spin-off, Boston Blue, on CBS has revealed its first trailer. The trailer gives fans the first look at Lena Silver, Sonequa Martin-Green (Invincible, The Walking Dead), in her role as a rising star detective within the Boston Police Department. She seems put off at first by the cultural differences between that of the Boston PD and the returning character Detective Danny, Donnie Wahlberg (Saw II, The Sixth Sense), whose antics are forged in the fiery furnace of New York.
The trailer, featured above, gives an insight into the complicated relationship between the two characters, who seem to both be set in their own ways. This is first highlighted by the fact that Danny refers to his badge as a shield, as Lena corrects him, “You mean your badge.” Danny quickly replies that where he is from, it’s called a shield. This seems to imply that, in New York, the badge itself is a symbol of something greater, something more sacred.
In the trailer, Danny and Lena set a perfect example of how a clash of cultures can lead to something wonderful. They put their differences aside to draw guns and kick in doors on the bad guys. Lena brings to light that Danny “has a reputation,” presumably being known for walking the line between following policy and bending it to bring justice to those who deserve it. He slickly responds, “Yeah, for getting things done.” The trailer paints a picture of an effective partnership between the two law enforcement officers. Lena holding Danny accountable for staying on the straight and narrow, and Danny showing Lena how to cut corners to bring old school justice to the bad guys.
Boston Blue is set to premiere on CBS on Friday, October 17th. Be sure to set your DVR.
