‘The Nevers’ Series: HBO Releases Full Length Trailer for Science Fiction Epic

The HBO series The Nevers is quickly approaching. Along with releasing its first full length trailer on Tuesday, HBO also revealed that the series will premiere on Sunday, April 11, as reported by Indiewire.

The first full look at the upcoming science fiction epic is filled with fisticuffs, fire and magic. Set in a dirty and grim looking London, a group of women become empowered through what is known as the touch, which grants them magical powers. While some use their powers for the greater good, the trailer also reveals violent ways others abuse it, sending Londoners into a panic. The series stars Laura Donnelly (Outlander) and Ann Skelly (Vikings) as two women who have become touched.

Indiwire picked up the official synopsis for the series released by HBO: “In the last years of Victoria’s reign, London is beset by the ‘Touched’: people – mostly women – who suddenly manifest abnormal abilities – some charming, some very disturbing. Among them are Amalia True (Laura Donnelly), a mysterious, quick-fisted widow, and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly), a brilliant young inventor. They are the champions of this new underclass, making a home for the Touched, while fighting the forces of…well, pretty much all the forces – to make room for those whom history as we know it has no place.”

Featuring a large ensemble cast, the series also stars Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz), Olivia Williams (Rushmore), Zachary Momoh (Seven Seconds), James Norton (Happy Valley), Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark), Amy Manson (Once Upon a Time), Rochelle Neil (Terminator: Dark Fate), Tom Riley (Angie Tribeca), Viola Prettejohn (The Witcher), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story) and Pip Torrens (Lost).

The series is created by Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly). He executive produced the first season as well but announced he was leaving the series after production on the six episode season had wrapped. He made the official announcement in November of 2020, attributing the reasons to the difficulties of making a show during a global pandemic.
