The Netflix and Marvel Original Show ‘Daredevil’ is Coming to Blu-ray and DVD

After becoming a huge hit on Netflix’s streaming service, fans of Marvel’s critically acclaimed Daredevil will finally be able to purchase a physical copy of the shows first season on Blu-ray and DVD

UK retailer Zavvi.com has the Blu-ray for the first season listed as available for pre-order with the release date listed as October 3 of this year. Additionally, the site is offering several editions of the product; the standard Blu-ray, a UK exclusive steelbook edition, and a UK exclusive steelbook- deluxe collector’s edition. The deluxe edition does not specify what is included except for “5 awesome Daredevil themed items” and a “collectors box”. Both the steelbook and deluxe versions also boast original artwork by legendary Marvel artist, former editor-in-cheif, and Daredevil producer Joe Quesada. The box art pictured on the site is not final and is subject to change.

The first season of Daredevil originally aired on Netflix April 10, 2015 and was instantly loved by comic fans and newcomers to the series. The long and painstakingly choreographed fight scenes were incredible to watch and trumped the action seen in many other shows, like Arrows tendency to have twelve cuts per 6 seconds of fight scene. The story was well told and presented the immediate plot with only necessary  or relevant snippets into Daredevil’s origin and past The acting was incredibly well done from the cast, including a solid performance from Charlie Cox as both Matt Murdock and Daredevil, a menacing and psychotic performance by Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, and a charming yet no-nonsense delivery from Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple. The second season added Jon Bernthal as the broken, lethal justice fueled Punisher who quickly became a fan favorite for his powerful portrayal of the war torn vigilante.

The decision to release physical copies despite the shows availability online may seem odd, but the primary consumer for these products is most likely those who do not have a subscription to the site, and those comic and television fanatics who love to have items and memorabilia to collect and display simply because it looks cool, feels good to have, and makes them feel good for showing their support for the products they love. Still, those fans have no word on when the shows second season will be available in a physical form, but judging on how long season 1 has taken, it should be a good wait. Fans of Marvel’s other Netflix original show Jessica Jones will also have to patiently wait as the show has not announced a date for a Blu-ray release.

For those who want to catch the blind, red spandex clad vigilante deliver fists full of justice to Hell’s Kitchen, the first 2 seasons are available to stream on Netflix, as well as the first season of Jessica Jones. For those fans who need more Punisher in their lives, Netflix has confirmed Punisher spinoff series is in the works.
