According to The Hollywood Reporter, Seth Rogen (The Studio, This Is the End) is set to revive The Muppets as Disney+ special. The new special will star Sabrina Carpenter (The Hate U Give, The Short History of the Long Road), who will be executive producing on the special. Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the original series and the new special is set to be a pilot for a possible new series moving forward. The special is set to air on Disney+ in 2026.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Rogen, Evan Goldberg (Pineapple Express, Sausage Party), James Weaver (The Disaster Artist, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) and Alex McAtee (An American Pickle, The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down) will executive produce the special for Point Grey Pictures. David Lightbody (Muppets Haunted Mansion,The Muppets Mayhem) Leigh Slaughter (Muppet Babies, Muppets Now) and Michael Steinbach (Lords of Dogtown, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World) executive produce for The Muppets Studio.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Muppets special will see the iconic Muppets return to their theater to produce a variety show, also hails from 20th Television and Disney Branded Television. Albertina Rizzo (Neon Joe, Werewolf Hunter, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon) will write and executive produce; Alex Timbers (Mozart in the Jungle, Oh, Hello on Broadway) will direct and executive produce. Matt Vogel (Sesame Street, Muppets Most Wanted) and Eric Jacobson (It’s a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, Jimmy Kimmel Live!) are also executive producers. Performers who have been with the series for a long time will continue to perform most of the muppetry. These performers include Bill Barretta (Muppet Babies, Drop the Mic), Dave Goelz (Inside Out 2, Fraggle Rock: Rock On!), Eric Jacobson (The Masked Singer, Sesame Street: The Nutcracker), Peter Linz (The Muppets Take the O2, Donkey Hodie), David Rudman (Disney Movie Insiders Presents, Elmo’s Mindfulness Spectacular!) and Matt Vogel (Amphibia, The Do-Over).
