The Much Anticipated ‘The Flash’/’Supergirl’ Crossover Is Finally Happening

It seems Supergirl is looking to get in on the cross-over trend. CBS announced on Wednesday that Barry Allen/The Flash from the CW’s hit series The Flash will be taking time out of his busy schedule to run over to National City.

As Supergirl is still figuring out how exactly to be a superhero, she has had familiar characters from the DC universe such as Jimmy Olsen and Martian Manhunter mentor her, but maybe this will give her a chance to get advice from a superhero who has been living in the spotlight. And maybe this will give The Flash a chance to appear as a mentor figure since he always seems to be going to the Green Arrow for help.

Grant Gustin who plays The Flash will appear alongside Supergirl cast-members Melissa Benoist, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Mechad Brooks and Jeremy Jordan. This won’t be Gustin and Benoist’s first time as co-stars, however. Before they were superheros, the young actor and actress appeared on Fox’s Glee, but I doubt the crossover will include a musical number.

According to TV Guide, The Flash and Supergirl executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg released a statement about the crossover in which they said, “We are so incredibly excited to announce something that we have dreamed of happening since we starting making Supergirl – The Flash and Supergirl are teaming up! We want to thank Grant Gustin for making the time to come visit (on top of his already immense workload) and all of the folks at CBS, The CW, Warner Bros. and DC for working this out. And finally, thanks to the fans and journalists who have kept asking for this to happen. It is our pleasure and hope to create an episode worthy of everyone’s enthusiasm and support.”

This won’t be the first crossover for The Flash. The character Barry Allen was introduced in the second season of Arrow in a 2-part episode. The following year, The Flash premiered and already there have been 2 The Flash and Arrow crossover events. Now with the addition of Legends of Tomorrow, the CW has become the home of the DC universe crossovers and spinoffs. The Flash may be making a special trip to National City, but apparently we shouldn’t expect to see Supergirl in Central City anytime soon.

The Flash will be making his special appearance on Supergirl on Monday, March 28.
