‘The Middle’ Spinoff Show Starring Eden Sher is in Works

A new spinoff show from The Middle is in the works at ABC. After the network canceled the reboot of Rosanne, there’s now an open hole during its Tuesday night comedy block.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, right after The Middle‘s season finale of their ninth season, the network is near a deal for a spinoff show that would revolve around Eden Sher’s Sue Heck. The network is considering to order a pilot for the comedy show.

The Middle is set in the fictional town of Orson, Indian and revolves around a middle-class family. The show stars Patricia Heaton as the mom, Neil Flynnas the dad, Charlie McDermott, Sue Sher and Atticus Shaffer as the three children.

Sher has become a breakout star for role in the ABC show. Sue spent the final season of The Middle exploring her characters love life and final year as a college student while still being able to see the world with optimism. The actress has been very vocal about her character leaving Indiana and potentially live in a larger city, and work in management in the hotel business.

If the spinoff does make it to Television then it would join ABC’s 2018-19 list of spinoffs which includes the 1990’s Goldbergs offshoot called Schooled, Grey’s Anatomy spinoff called Station 19 and Black-ish spinoff Grown-ish.

ABC has declined to comment about any deals for the series because no deal has been finalized yet.
