‘The Jinx’ Part Two: The Future of True Crime

HBO is set to release a sequel to its Emmy-winning documentary series, The Jinx, in 2024. The new series will explore the life and crimes of Robert Durst, a convicted murderer suspected of multiple other killings.The documentary first premiered in 2015. The series is being directed by Andrew Jarecki (Catfish), who will recap the events from the previous season and is expected to premiere in 2024.  According to Warner Bros Discovery, “the groundbreaking show “The Jinx” unraveled one of the most notorious unsolved crimes in New York history, exposing long-buried information discovered during the filmmakers’ decades-long investigation of Robert Durst, scion of New York’s billionaire real estate family”. We can expect actor/actresses from the previous part to reprise their roles in the upcoming section.

The second part of the documentary is sure to explore the 2015 court case of Robert Durst in more detail, including the evidence that led to his conviction. Unlike traditional documentary series which only retells the facts, the second part of the HBO series is expected to be more analytical and investigative and to represent a new era for true story documentaries. According to a previous article by mxdwn , made-for-TV movie chronicling the point of view of Kathie Durst, Robert Durst’s first wife, is set to be in production by Lifetime, Variety reports. Kathie Durst had disappeared in 1982, and it was suspected that her husband, who had been known to be “troubled,” was likely her killer.

According to Warner Bros Discovery, “The Jinx was nominated for six Primetime Emmy® Awards, winning for Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Series and Outstanding Picture Editing For Nonfiction Programming”. Overall, The second part of The Jinx is shaping up to be very educational with also some suspense and mystery mixed in. While no further information has been announced, true crime fans can set their calendars in order to watch it when it comes out.
