“The Jim Gaffigan Show” Ending With Season 2

With the start of the new TV season, yet another show is concluding its broadcast run. TV Land’s The Jim Gaffigan Show is ending with its second season.

The announcement was made last night on comedian Jim Gaffigan’s official twitter account. Gaffigan, who acts as the series co-showrunner with his wife Jeannie Gaffigan, wrote: “After months of discussion, Jeanie and I have decided to make season 2 of The Jim Gaffigan Show the final season,” adding that working on the show was “empowering, exhilarating, and exhausting”. When asked if the show had been cancelled, Gaffigan sent out another tweet saying the show wasn’t cancelled, and that it was his and Jeannie’s decision “to not continue doing the show”.

In a statement to Variety, a TV Land spokesperson said: “We are really proud of The Jim Gaffigan Show and the amazing comedy that Jim, Jeannie, the cast, the creative team and JAX Media have made for us. After two great seasons, we have mutually agreed to not move forward with Season 3 of the series. We have an incredible amount of respect for everyone involved, and are grateful to them for bringing their passion and dedication to The Jim Gaffigan Show“.

The Jim Gaffigan Show premiered on TV Land July 15th, 2015. It followed the semi-autobiographical adventures of –  you guessed it – Jim Gaffigan, who played a fictionalized version of himself. In addition to the regular cast, which included Michael Ian Black (Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp) and Adam Goldberg (Fargo), famous comedians like Chris Rock and Will Farell would often appear on the show as themselves.

While on the air, the show received decent critical acclaim, with comparisons to other semi-autobiographical sitcoms such as Louis CK’s Louie and Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Now that the show is ending, Jim and Jeannie Gaffigan “are excited to move forward with other creative pursuits”. Best of luck with whatever they decide to do next.

The final episode of The Jim Gaffigan Show aired this past Sunday, August 21st on TV Land. For those looking to fill the new Jim Gaffigan-shaped void in their lives, the comedian has several specials available to stream on Netflix.
