The Handmaid’s Tale Enters The Final Season

The Handmaid’s Tale, a Hulu series, enters its final season. The show premiered back in 2017 and follows June Osburne, played by Elizabeth Moss(Shining Girl, MadMen), who was taken away from her normal and forced into a center that specializes in keeping women under control. As birth rates plummet around the country, the few fertilized women are kept hidden and forced to give birth to repopulate the nation. The Handmaids are subject to strict control, constant surveillance, and ritualized abuse. The series started as a novel written by Margaret Atwood(Cat’s Eye, The Robber Bride).

The series explores the topics of power, gender oppression, religious extremism, and resistance. The chilling fact is that freedom can be lost and be subjected to power and control.
