With The Good Wife airing its final episodes, fans are wanting to know whether favorite character Will Gardner (Josh Charles) will be returning. This past weekend, at the Tribecca Film Festival, Robert and Michelle King touched upon the rumors, according to Variety.
“We don’t want to squash those rumors, because why would we? But there are a lot of possibilities for the last episodes,” Robert King said.
Fans of the show will remember the shock of Charles’ departure from the show back in season five, when his character of Will Gardner was gunned down by his client in the courtroom and died from the gunshots he sustained. And though his character died, he’s been seen since then in flashback scenes and Charles himself has even been back on set to direct some of the episodes – even directing the episode that dealt with the aftermath of Will’s shooting.
He was last seen on the show in a dream sequence that Alicia had while she was sick. And though it was a body double that they used, it was confirmed that it was Josh Charles’ voice used in the episode, according to E! Online. The episode he was featured in was designed as a way for Alicia to let go of Will.
Since leaving The Good Wife in 2014, Charles has done guest appearances on Inside Amy Schumer and he appeared on Masters of Sex and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. Recently, he made a guest appearance on the season two finale of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Prior to The Good Wife, he appeared in Sports Night and portrayed Knox Overstreet in the movie Dead Poets Society.
The Kings also talked about the possibility of a spinoff, saying that it’s too early to be talking about it but there’s always the possibility of a spinoff in the future.
But while the Kings kept quiet about Charles returning, they have shut down the possibility of Archie Panjabi, who portrayed private investigator Kalinda Sharma, returning to the show for the final episodes of the show, telling Variety “Kalinda went off deliberately to disappear. It wouldn’t make any sense for her to come back,” Michelle King said.
The final episode of The Good Wife is set to air on May 8 at 9 p.m. For fans who want to relive Will Gardner being on the show, regardless of if Charles returns to the show for its finale or not, seasons one through six of The Good Wife are available for streaming on Hulu Plus.
