The curtains are closing on the groundbreaking FX series Pose, which will end with its third season as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Co-creator of the show Steven Canals (Dead of Summer) broke the news on Friday ahead of the season three premiere on May 2.
Pose tells the story of various New Yorkers finding a home within the queer ballroom scene located in Harlem during the 1980s and 1990s. The series set a record for having the largest transgender cast in television history played by transgender actors. Star of the series Billy Porter (American Horror Story: Apocalypse) also made history by becoming the first openly gay man to win the Best Actor Emmy at the 2019 Awards.
Canals announced on Twitter Friday morning that season three would be the last season of Pose, writing, “Hey Pose Fam! We made the decision to end @PoseOnFX after 3 seasons because we reached the intended ending of our story. This experience has been life changing. THANK YOU is too small a word. And yet, it’s what is in my heart. Hope to see you in May 2nd when we debut.” In an attached document posted alongside the tweet, he went on to further write: “I, along with my incredible collaborators, never intended on changing the TV landscape. I simply wanted to tell an honest story about family, resilience, and love. How fortunate am I to have done that for three seasons.”
