The HBO series True Detective: Night Country is now one of the most successful chapters of the franchise because of its high ratings, ComicBook.com reports. This chapter is the fourth one of the True Detective franchise, and it seems that people can’t get enough of it. Every episode of Night Country has given very high ratings to the streamer, with last Sunday’s episode being the most viewed.
The finale of True Detective: Night Country was seen by 3.2 million people on its debut night. This is a number that includes the people who watched it on Max rather than on HBO. The episode released last week was seen by 5 million people but over the course of multiple days, via ComicBook.com.
True Detective: Night Country has had a total of 12.7 million viewers per episode throughout the entire season. According to ComicBook.com, this includes views from the streamer. The True Detective finale episode of Sunday had an open ending, which made the viewers wonder what happened to the character of Navarro. The series’ showrunner, Issa López (Road to Fame, Side Effects, Charm School), has spoken in an exclusive interview with Deadline about whether the character is still alive or not.
“I’m not saying that she’s alive, and I’m certainly not saying that she’s dead,” López explained, via ComicBook.com. “I very carefully crafted this as an ink blot test for you to discover yourself as an audience member. I do love that Navarro states very early in the series that she has this impulse to just walk away and leave everything behind.” On the other hand, the entire series is an exploration of the fact that she feels a calling to the beyond.
“In the climax of the finale, and instead of fighting it and going in with pain and fear, she surrenders to it. And in doing it, she receives a piece of herself. So that call that she was afraid of is solved,” López continued, via ComicBook.com. “The Aboriginal people in Australia go and walk about, find themselves and then come back, which I think is what Kali embraced [for the character]. However, there is a chance that she is also going to be with the women before her visit to them. You can read it both ways and it’s up to you to interpret which one fulfills your heart.”
True Detective: Night Country is available to stream on Max now.
