Actor Tim Key, known for playing sidekick Simon in Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, is joining the cast of The End of the F***ing World for season two of the Channel 4/Netflix drama. Based on Charles Forsman’s mini-comics of the same name, the series was created by Jonathan Entwistle after he contacted Forsman about making a short film in 2014. But instead an eight-part serial was commissioned and written by Charlie Covell, while Entwistle and Lucy Tcherniak directed respective episodes.
The series’ first season followed a 17-year-old James who believes he is a psychopath, spending his spare time killing animals, but eventually grows bored and decides to kill a person instead. He sets his sights on Alyssa, a rebellious and foul-mouthed classmate who has a rough home life. After approaching her, she convinces him to run away with her while James sees the road trip as an opportunity to kill her. Driving across England, they begin to develop a mutual romantic relationship after a series of mishaps.
In the show’s second outing, Key will play motel owner Gus— no other details have been released on the series’ other main key characters (Alex Lawther from Black Mirror and Jessica Barden from Penny Dreadful). The upcoming season is set to launch on November 4th at 10PM in the UK, while the entire season will be made available on All4 shortly after.
Channel 4 also teased a first look photo of Alyssa in a wedding dress standing outside a cafe and Gus sitting alone in a neon red lit motel room. The Emmy-nominated The End of the F***ing World, is produced in partnership with Covell, Clerkenwell Films, and Dominic Buchanan Productions. The dark comedy is executive produced by Murray Ferguson, Ed Macdonald, Andy Baker, Dominic Buchanan, Jonathan Entwistle, Charlie Covell and Jenny Frayn.
