The Duffer Brother’s ‘The Boroughs’ Adds Geena Davis, Alfred Molina, Bill Pullman And More To The Cast

A new series from the Duffer brothers (Stranger Things) is on the horizon, and six new cast members were just added to its ranks, according to Deadline. The Boroughs, supernatural mystery, will now include Alfred Molina (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Frida), Geena Davis (Thelma & Louise!, A League of Their Own), Alfre Woodard (Clemency, Star Trek: First Contact), Denis O’Hare (American Horror Story, Dallas Buyers Club), Clarke Peters (Da 5 Bloods) and Bill Pullman (The Sinner, Independence Day).

The series will have eight episodes, with Ben Taylor (Sex Education) also set to direct multiple episodes and serve as executive producer. Though the characters’ plots are still being kept under wraps, Deadline reveals, “Molina will play Sam; Davis will play Renee; Woodard will play Judy; O’Hare will play Wally; Peters will play Art; and Pullman will play Jack.”

The showrunners of the series are Jeffery Addiss and Will Mathews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance), and the duo are also the series co-creators. According to Deadline, “The Boroughs is set in seemingly picturesque retirement community where a group of unlikely heroes must band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don’t have… time.” With this initial plot description, many people have compared the new series to another Duffer brothers hit, Stranger Things. It has often been described as “Stranger Things set in a retirement community,” as stated by Deadline.

In April, when the series was officially called to be ordered, the Duffer brothers made a statement regarding the comparison between The Boroughs and Stranger Things, “While the heroes in The Boroughs have a few more years on them than the kids from Stranger Things, they are a similarly lovable bunch of misfits, and we can’t wait for you to join them on an adventure that is at turns scary, funny, and deeply touching” according to Deadline.

The series is being executive produced by the Duffer brothers, who gained notoriety through their work on Stranger Things, one of Netflix’s most successful series. With the show’s fifth and final season on the horizon, The Boroughs is another project under their Netflix deal.
