Deadline has reported that Jon Stewart (Half Baked, The Daily Show) and The Daily Show have reacted to the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! by airing an “administration compliant show”. Jimmy Kimmel (Smurfs, Hacks) was suspended over comments regarding the alleged shooter in the death of Charlie Kirk.
According to Deadline, While many suspected Stewart would go on a tirade about free speech, The Daily Show defied expectations by presenting a satirical program that they believed would satisfy the Trump administration. The set was decorated with gold trim, reminiscent of the president’s AI video of “Trump Gaza”. Earlier this year, Stewart went on a profanity-filled rant about the cancellation of his former coworker’s late-night program, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.

Deadline has reported that they did not break from their character for the first portion of the show. “We have another fun, hilarious, administration-compliant show, Coming to you tonight from the real sh*thole, the crime-ridden cesspool that is New York City. It is a tremendous disaster like no one’s ever seen before. Someone’s National Guard should invade this place, am I right?” Stewarts said in his opening monologue.
According to Deadline, Stewart continued by jokingly praising Trump’s visit to the UK. “Father has been gracing England with his legendary warmth and radiance, gazed upon him with a gait even more majestic than that of the Royal horses that pranced before him, he wowed the English with charm and intelligence and an undeniable sexual charisma that filled their air like a pheromone-packed London fog.” Eventually he went to use the epithet, “Dear Leader”, possibly referencing the heavily propagandized state of North Korea.
Deadline has reported that Trump had previously said that Kimmel was “fired” due to a deficiency of talent. Kimmel has not been fired, Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been suspended. Stewart then went on to say Trump has a fictional device called the “Talent O’Meter”.
“It’s a completely scientific instrument that is kept on the President’s desk, and it tells the President when a performer’s TQ, Talent Quota, measured mostly by niceness to the President, goes below a certain level, at which point the FCC must be notified to threaten the acquisition prospects for billion-dollar mergers of network affiliates. These affiliates are then asked to give ultimatums to the even larger mega corporation that controls the flow of state-approved content or the FCC can just choose to threaten those licenses directly. It’s basic science,” Stewart joked, via Deadline.
According to Deadline, Stewart would indirectly make comments about free speech. “Some naysayers may argue that this administration’s speech concerns are merely a cynical ploy, a thin gruel of a ruse, a smoke screen to obscure an unprecedented consolidation of power and unitary intimidation, principledness and coldly antithetical to any experiment in a constitutional republic, governance. Some people would say that. Not me though, I think it’s great,”
Deadline has reported that Stewart and the rest of The Daily Show cast would end the broadcast with a musical number similar to the song they aired in response to the Colbert cancellation.
Via Deadline, The Daily Show came about a day after the Kimmel suspension was reported. On Monday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel said, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
According to Deadline, subsequently, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr rebuffed Kimmel’s commentary, with Nexstar following suit shortly thereafter. Disney then decided to suspend the show.
