The comic book original series, DC’s Stargirl, on The CW will wrap its series run after the conclusion of its third season, according to Deadline. Currently, the superhero program is in the midst of its third and final season before wrapping its broadcast window on December 7. Upon its conclusion, Stargirl will have aired from 2020 to the end of 2022 consisting of three 13 episode seasons totaling up to 39 episodes.
Stargirl centers on its protagonist Courtney Whitmore who is a high school student that uncovers the ability of the cosmic staff that grants her superpowers and, in turn, makes her one of the newest additions to the younger generation of superheroes. The trials and tribulations of Whitmore first was released on DC Universe with next day airings on The CW before transitioning solely to The CW for the last two seasons. The series cast includes Brec Bassinger (Bella and the Bulldogs) as Whitmore alongside Anjelika Washington (Girls Room), Yvette Monreal (Faking It), Cameron Gellman (Heathers), Meg DeLacy (The Fosters), Amy Smart (Just Friends, Shameless), Joel McHale (Community), and Luke Wlson (Old School). Stargirl joins the growing list of series ending its run upon Nexstar’s purchase of The CW following the news that series such as Nancy Drew, Riverdale, and The Flash finishing their respective runs.
Regardless, via Deadline, during the writing process for the third installment, Stargirl was notified that it was approaching its end possibly and a proper series finale was prepared for the third season’s ending in December. Currently, there has been no news regarding any future for the Stargirl character within the DC cinematic universe.
