The CW just handed out early renewals to the majority of its properties such as All American, The Flash, Kung Fu, Riverdale, Nancy Drew, Superman And Lois and Walker. According to Deadline, this is unusual for the network as they repeatedly hand out these early renewals as soon as January.
The lateness of these continuations can stem from the recent news of the young-adult centered station being put up for sale by its parent companies, Warner Bros. and Paramount Global. Deadline reports that the most recent suitor of the station, Nexstar, may have been apart of this delay as well since they reportedly wanted to be apart of these decisions.
With The Flash returning for its ninth season, this will make it the network’s longest-running arrowverse show, dethroning the now concluded show Arrow. The CW has not commented on whether or not this record-setting season will be the show’s final.
Riverdale is not far behind as it will be coming back for its seventh season, and the network follows suite by not providing a comment on to whether or not the long running teen drama will end after this new season.
While these shows make up the bulk of the scripted schedule, there are still those shows that have not been decided on such as the superhero show Naomi and the time travel mystery, The 4400. Other popular shows that have not been renewed include The Legends of Tomorrow, All American: Homecoming, Dynasty, Batwoman, Stargirl, Charmed and Legacies.
“As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond. These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint,” Mark Pedowitz, Chairman and CEO of the CW Network said.
