It’s official. The CW sports drama All American is going ahead with its spin-off series All American: Homecoming. Geffri Maya (Private Practice) will star, reprising her role as Simone Hicks, via Deadline.
The debut of the potential new series will air as a backdoor pilot sometime during the current third season of All American on The CW. The official synopsis for the series picked up by Deadline is: “A young adult sports drama set against the backdrop of the HBCU experience. It follows a young tennis hopeful from Beverly Hills and an elite baseball player from Chicago as they contend with the high stakes of college sports, while also navigating the highs, lows and sexiness of unsupervised early adulthood at a prestigious Historically Black College.”
Maya first appeared on All American during its second season. She was featured in a total of 9 episodes. The spin-off series is created and written by All American showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll (The Resident). Carroll will also executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti (Riverdale), Sarah Schechter (Black Lightning), David Madden (The Americans), and Robbie Rogers (All American). Michael Shultz (Black Lightning) director of numerous All American episodes, will direct the pilot. Berlanti Productions will produce alongside Warner Bros. Television.
All American: Homecoming is just one of the many spin-off series that will be premiering on the CW this calendar year. The superhero drama Black Lightning is also making a spin-off series entitled Painkiller starring Jordan Calloway (Riverdale). It will premiere as a backdoor pilot during its upcoming fourth season. Teen drama detective series Nancy Drew is also getting a spin-off series, Tom Swift.
An all new episode of All American, “High Expectations,” airs tonight on The CW at 8 p.m E.T.
