Recently, The CW had to make some difficult decisions regarding the renewal of various shows. One of the shows under deliberation was Gotham Knights. According to Deadline, The CW renewed Superman & Lois and All American: Homecoming. However, when it came to the fate of Gotham Knights, the series was canceled.
Deadline explained that this was in part due to the new ownership of The CW, which meant that only a few of the highest-rated shows were being renewed.
Some speculate that other reasonings for the cancellation revolve around the nature of the series as a whole. According to Screenrant, Gotham Knights was a “controversial project” to begin with as it focused on new, original characters.
Despite the cancellation, Screenrant notes that some fans have retaliated on social media platforms, such as Twitter. However, the verdict has stayed the same.
Created by Natalie Abrams (Supergirl, Batwoman), Chad Fiveash (Switched at Birth, Batwoman), and James Stoteraux (Three Kings, Batwoman), Gotham Knights first debuted in October of 2022.
The first season revolves around the aftermath of Bruce Wayne’s death and the effect it has on his adopted son named Turner Hayes, played by Oscar Morgan (Death in Paradise, Masters of the Air).
He becomes allies with Duela, played by Olivia Rose Keegan (Daisy Jones & The Six, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series), Harper, played by Fallon Smythe (Lost in the West, Grown-ish), and Cullen, played by Tyler DiChiara (Relish, The Virgin of Highland Park). This alliance strengthens when they are framed for the murder of the Caped Crusader.
Other stars of the show include Navia Ziraili Robinson (Raven’s Home, Free Rein) as Carrie, Anna Lore (Doom Patrol, Katie) as Stephanie, Damon Dayoub (Stitchers, NCIS) as Lincoln, and Misha Collins (Supernatural, Girl, Interrupted) as Harvey.
Although Gotham Knights will not be renewed for a second season, fans of DC Comics can still look forward to other shows, such as Superman & Lois.
