The CW Bets on Kristin Kreuk Again With New ‘Burden of Truth’ Series

The CW has already had two hits with actress Kristen Kreuk, and now it’s going for a trifecta. This week it was announced the network has acquired Burden of Truth, a legal drama starring Kreuk.

In the series, Kreuk will play Joanna Hanley, a lawyer in a large city who pays a visit to her hometown for what seems like a straightforward case. However, Joanna soon learns that things are more complex than expected and finds herself battling for justice for a group of sick girls.

Burden of Truth also stars Peter Mooney (ABC’s Rookie Blue), Alex Carter (CBS’ NCIS), Benjamin Ayres (NBC’s Saving Hope), Nicola Correia-Damude (Freeform’s Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments), Meegwun Fairbrother (Netflix’s Hemlock Grove) and Star Slade (Netflix’s Frontier).

The new series will be debut on The CW’s summer lineup with 10 episodes.

Burden of Truth first premiered on Canadian network CBC in January.

Kreuk will be a face longtime viewers of The CW remember well. Kreuk was the leading lady in Smallville, a drama depicting the high-school and subsequent years of Kansas’ Clark Kent (aka Superman) and his love interest Lana Lang (played by Kreuk). The show ran for five seasons on The WB and then for another five seasons on The CW, the name given to the network after it merged with UPN.

Following Smallville’s finale in 2011, Kreuk rejoined The CW’s primetime lineup in 2012, starring as Catherine Chandler in the network’s TV adaption of Beauty & the Beast. The series ended its run after 4 seasons in 2016.

Kreuk seems to be happy to be gracing The CW small screen again. She briefly responded to the news via Twitter today, saying “Great news!”
