According to Deadline, Jonathan Pryce (Slow Horses, Game of Thrones), who played Prince Philip in The Crown, spoke about the royal family in an interview with Times Radio. In this interview, he revealed that the Royal Family has seen the series. He also spoke about his interaction with Princess Anne and how he apologized to her.
As Deadline notes, Pryce explained, “One of our cast met one of the royal family who intimated that they watched it.”
He continued to speak about his specific experience with Princess Anne, stating, “When I was made a knight and went to Windsor, and it was Princess Anne who dubbed me, and I was in the middle of playing her father, and there’d been intimations that she’d seen some of it.”
He added, “And so she put the sword lightly on the shoulder, and I stood up and I said – thinking she was thinking, you know – I said, ‘Oh, I don’t know what to say to you…um…sorry? And she said, ‘Why? It’s done now.’ Now, whether she meant I was saying sorry for being here tonight, or sorry for, y’know, you’ve played my father and it’s done the way you’ve done it, it’s, you know, whatever.”
“It was quite an amusing moment,” he said, “for me at least.”
The Crown debuted on Netflix in 2016, and the series just ended with its sixth and final season. The first part of the final season premiered on November 16th, and the second part premiered on December 14th.
