The Creator Of ‘Invincible’ Discusses The Split Release Of Season Two

Comicbook reports that season two of Invincible concluded its airing this month, and the creator took a moment to acknowledge fan reactions to the decision to split the season. The second season commenced last fall, leaving viewers hanging with a gripping cliffhanger at the end of the fourth episode. Only last month did the series return with the conclusive four episodes of season two, providing fans with the long-awaited resolution and setting the stage for Mark Grayson and fellow heroes as they gear up for season three.

The split of Invincible season two’s final episodes prompted a varied response from fans, which was a topic addressed by creator Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead) in an interview with Variety. While acknowledging the necessity of the split for season two’s production, Kirkman emphasized that it did not cause “any real, lasting detriment” as evidenced by its continued success on Prime Video.

He stated, “I’ve certainly heard from people who didn’t care for it,” Kirkman responded when asked about fan reaction to Invincible‘s Season two split release. “I understand that when you’re enjoying a thing and it gets taken away and given back to you at a later date — not the best. But it was a necessity for the production of Season two. Overall, I think it went well. The response to the last half of Season two has very much been, ‘Wish there hadn’t been a split, love the last half of Season two.’ We’re still hitting number one on the Amazon platform. I don’t think it caused any real, lasting detriment to the show. But, you live and learn so we’ll have to see how things go moving forward.”

Invincible season three is currently in development, and it remains to be seen whether it will adopt a similar staggered release format. With the conclusion of season two hinting at a darker trajectory for Mark, fans are eager for the upcoming episodes. You can now stream the first two seasons of Invincible, along with the “Atom Eve” special episode, on Prime Video.
