ABC’s Roseanne spinoff, The Conners, is getting an all-new airtime. According to TVLine, starting this Wednesday, May 1, new episodes of the network’s most-watched comedy series will now premiere at 9:30 p.m. PT/8:30 p.m. ET, just after Abbott Elementary.
TVLine notes that another show is expected to swoop in to take the former 8 p.m. slot, which is season two of Jeopardy! Masters, which will stay on that same airtime for the rest of the network’s 2023-24 broadcast season.
Also on Wednesday nights, the comedy series Not Dead Yet completed its second season on April 24. As a result, Abbott Elementary and The Conners will premiere consecutively from 9 to 10 p.m. Additionally, there are only four more episodes of the sixth season of The Conners, which saw a shortened season with only 13 episodes due to Hollywood’s strikes of 2023.
TVLine also notes that the series’ future is currently unknown. After season six production concluded, it was revealed that cast negotiations had not begun yet, as they are typically done each spring.
According to TVLine, with each new season of The Conners, new one-year deals must be hashed out with the legacy cast members, including Lecy Goranson (Boys Don’t Cry, Fringe), John Goodman (Monsters, Inc., 10 Cloverfield Lane), Sara Gilbert (Poison Ivy, Sudie and Simpson), and Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird, Scream 2).
Tom Werner Entertainment, the company that produces The Conners, and ABC recently talked about renewing the comedy series for a prospective seventh and final season. However, as per TVLine, the series may end with its anticipated season six finale.
If The Conners is indeed canceled, producers on board are on standby. TVLine reports that a tag scene was recently filmed and will be added should the finale turn into a season finale.
As per TVLine, ABC’s Wednesday night schedule lineup will go as follows:
BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, MAY 1:
8 pm Jeopardy! Masters
9 pm Abbott Elementary (previously renewed for Season 4)
9:30 pm The Conners (new time slot)
