The nominations for the 70th Emmy Awards have been announced. The shows with the most nominations were HBO’s Game of Thrones with 22, which includes Best Drama, also, NBC’s Saturday Night Live and HBO’s Westworld both received 21 nominations. Netflix’s most nominated television shows were The Crown with 13, as well as, Godless and Stranger Things both have 12 nominations. Netflix ended up having the most nominations with 112, which means that for the first time in 18 years HBO did not lead all networks in nominations. Instead HBO was second with 108 and NBC was third with 78.
HBO said in a statement, “HBO is very pleased with its 108 nominations, especially the wide range over so many categories. We’re grateful to all our nominees for making this the eighth year we’ve had 100 nominations or more. We look forward to Sept. 17th.”
Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said, “We congratulate our creative partners on their unprecedented success today, garnering Netflix a leading 112 nominations. We are particularly enthused to see the breadth of our programming celebrated with nominations spread across 40 new and returning titles which showcase our varied and expansive slate — comedies, dramas, movies, limited series, documentary, variety, animation and reality.”
