The Hollywood Reporter has reported that HBO’s new series The Chair Company has reached a wide audience, becoming HBO’s largest comedy premiere in five years. It follows the thriller series Task on the Sunday night schedule. Task is also drawing high ratings heading into the end of the season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has stated that 1.4 million people have watched The Chair Company’s premiere in the last three days. The last HBO comedy series to reach that many viewers was Avenue 5 in 2020. The Chair Company is led by Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, Friendship), and his off-brand style of comedy.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Robinson is known for his sketch comedy shows, I Think You Should Leave and Detroiters. He co-created both series with his collaborator Zach Kanin (I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson, Saturday Night Live) .
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Task has enjoyed steadily increasing viewership since its September 7th premiere. According to HBO, the latest episode in the series drew 4 million viewers across all streaming platforms in three days. That tally is a million more viewers than its premiere episode.
The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the Task premiere has now grown to 10 million viewers in the last six weeks, with 6.7 million average for all episodes. Series creator Brad Ingelsby’s (Mare Of Easttown, Out Of The Furnace) other HBO series Mare Of Easttown racked up similar numbers, averaging 6.8 million viewers over the same period. Mare Of Easttown would go on to average 13 million viewers during the HBO 90 measuring period.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, both shows seem to have loyal followings that tune in on time. The Chair Company accounted for nine percent of the three-day viewing during the on-air premiere, while Task’s Sunday episode drew in ten percent. That is 124,000 viewers and 401,000, respectively.
