The cast of the CW’s Nancy Drew talked about the upcoming adaptation at the San Diego Comic-Con, in a live video, Entertainment Weekly has learned.
Kennedy McMann, who plays the detective Nancy Drew, told EW’s Samantha Highfill that she has been a big fan of the books since childhood and she has been preparing to play this role for her whole life. “I think there’s a sense of her character that comes from the games and comes from the books that you only know intimately if you’ve really gotten to know them,” she said.” There’s this cunning but this sense of humor mixed into it, and this sense of [how] she never doubts herself, that I really wanted to make sure stayed true [in] this representation of her.”
“All the characters in this are very relatable and human,” said Leah Lewis, who plays the character George. “In the books I feel like it focuses more on them in action, whereas this focuses a lot on the relationships.” The cast continued by telling a little of what the relationships and the players may be like. “For George, she is this really tough girl who kind of grew up on the wrong side of the tracks,” Lewis said. “She and Nancy have some pretty bad beef, which you’ll have to see unfold!”
According to actor Tunji Kasim, the new Ned “Nick” “is quite a different imagining from the books. We’ve kind of started again with his character, and actually Ned — a.k.a. Nick — has a bit of a history.”
Bess “is a city girl, so she sort of sticks out a little bit in this town,” Maddison Jaizani explained. “But she’s also exploring her own identity, which — it’s more than meets the eye.”
What about the character Ace played by Alex Saxon? “He’s sort of along for the ride,” the actor revealed (in a way that tells otherwise).”Yeah, he washes dishes, hangs out with everybody, and tries to solve a little crime when he can.”
