This week has been rough for the stars of network television as more than 20 shows have been cancelled. Some of the most notable include:
ABC: Marvel’s Inhumans, Designated Survivor, Quantico, and The Mayor
NBC: Taken and Rise
CBS: Scorpion, Kevin Can Wait, 9JKL and Superior Donuts
Fox: The Last Man on Earth, The Mick, The Exorcist and Lucifer
The CW: Life Sentence and Valor
The most controversial cancellation (and subsequent resurrection) came involving Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Within 24 hours after Fox announcing it was ending the show, NBC jumped in to perform CPR by picking it up for the Fall lineup.
Katherine McPhee, star of the cancelled drama Scorpion, Tweeted out her appreciation for her time on the show:
Execs over at ABC had alluded previously that Marvel’s Inhumans might not survive the fall. During a winter press tour, ABC head Channing Dungey made a statement on the show, “It didn’t perform for us at the level that we would’ve wanted,” she said. “We haven’t made any official decision yet about what we’re going to pick up in May, but I will say that the numbers, unfortunately, were less exciting for us than we hoped they would be.”
Even after all of the shift changes on the Kevin Can Wait set by killing off the wife and bringing on Leah Remini, it just wasn’t enough to keep the show going. A strong fan base has helped with another show, Last Man Standing, which Fox picked up after last year’s release by ABC.
Keep checking in as more cancellations may still surface before all is said and done.
