According to Deadline, the quiet terrors of suburban life take center stage once again in Peacock’s upcoming reboot of The ’Burbs, with Keke Palmer (Nope, Hustlers) stepping into the role of an overly observant neighbor who refuses to ignore the strange happenings next door.
Per Deadline, Peacock unveiled a new trailer on Friday for the eight-episode series, which premieres February 8 with all episodes available to stream. Palmer stars opposite Jack Whitehall (Jungle Cruise, Clifford the Big Red Dog) as Samira and Rob, a young couple who move into Rob’s childhood home in what’s proudly described as “the safest town in America.”
That sense of security doesn’t last long. Samira quickly becomes fixated on the house across the street a property rumored to be haunted and occupied by a deeply unsettling new resident, played by Justin Kirk (Angels in America, Succession). While Rob insists everything is fine, it soon becomes clear he may know more about the house’s past than he’s willing to share per Deadline.
As Reported Deadline, determined to uncover the truth, Samira teams up with her curious neighbors, portrayed by Julia Duffy (Newhart, Drake & Josh), Paula Pell (A.P. Bio, Girls5eva), and Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows, Better Call Saul), to investigate what’s really going on behind closed doors. Their growing suspicions only deepen as strange behavior and buried secrets begin to surface.
According to Deadline, the series is inspired by Joe Dante’s 1989 cult classic The ’Burbs, which starred Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump, Cast Away) and Carrie Fisher (Star Wars, When Harry Met Sally…). The reboot is created by Celeste Hughey (Dead to Me, Good Girls), with Rachel Shukert (The Handmaid’s Tale, Supergirl) serving as co-writer and Nzingha Stewart (Tall Girl, Little Fires Everywhere) directing.
Per Deadline, Executive producers include Hughey, Shukert, Stewart, and Palmer, alongside Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, The Orville), Erica Huggins (Ted, A Million Ways to Die in the West), and Aimee Carlson (American Dad!, The Cleveland Show) for Fuzzy Door, and Brian Grazer (A Beautiful Mind, Arrested Development), Kristen Zolner (Empire, 24), and Natalie Berkus (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) for Imagine Entertainment. Dana Olsen (George of the Jungle, The ’Burbs) serves as co-executive producer.
