Season Five of Prime Video’s The Boys is shaping up to be a high-stakes conclusion, with plenty of loose ends left to tie up. According to Comicbook.com, one major character confirmed to return is Jessie T. Usher’s (Smile, Tales of the Walking Dead) A-Train, despite season four’s ending hinting at his possible exit
A-Train’s arc in the previous season saw him working as a mole for The Boys, sabotaging The Seven and defying Homelander. In the finale, he removed his tracking chip and fled, seemingly cutting ties with Vought. These events led to speculation about his fate, further fueled by a post from Vought’s in-universe social media account claiming A-Train was on a “top-secret mission overseas.” However, Usher recently put the rumors to rest by sharing a cast photo on Instagram.
Homelander’s grip on both Vought and the U.S. government will likely dominate the narrative of season five. At the same time, Billy Butcher, armed with the last dose of a supe-killing virus and his enhanced powers, seems poised for a final showdown with his nemesis. Familiar faces returning include Antony Starr (Outrageous Fortune), Karl Urban (Star Trek), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games, Vinyl), Erin Moriarty (Blood Father) and Jensen Ackles (Supernatural, Big Sky) as Soldier Boy, now a series regular. New additions to the cast include Mason Dye (Stranger Things) and Daveed Diggs (Snowpiercer).
A-Train’s betrayal of Homelander is sure to have severe repercussions, with the supe leader likely seeking revenge. However, his alignment with The Boys offers a glimmer of hope for Hughie and the team, who were left in dire straits at the end of season four. Meanwhile, unresolved storylines include Queen Maeve’s fate. Although presumed dead by the public after battling Soldier Boy, Maeve escaped Vought’s control to start a new life with her girlfriend. Whether she will re-enter the fray remains unknown.
Throughout the series, A-Train’s journey has been tumultuous. From a Godolkin University recruit to a celebrity supe, his career was derailed by fame, Compound V addiction and betrayal from his teammates. In season four, he works alongside Ashley, played by Colby Minifie (Fear the Walking Dead), to devise an escape plan, though their paths diverge as Ashley chooses to stay with Vought and fight back. With A-Train back in the mix, the final season promises tension, redemption and the explosive conflicts that have become the show’s signature.
