Amazon’s The Boys has released the long-awaited first look at star Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) as superhero, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Based on the popular comic books, The Boys follows the effects of superheroes going rogue and using their powers for evil, and what happens when the boys try to stop them.
The series stars Karl Urban (Dredd), Erin Moriarty (Blood Father), Jack Quaid (The Hunger Games), and Antony Starr (Banshee) alongside Ackles. Ackles is slated to play the role of Soldier Boy, who acts as a Captain America parody, described as “a cowardly and naive individual who mindlessly sucks up to other well-known superheroes,” via The Hollywood Reporter. Below is a first look at the star in his super-suit.
“When I cast Jensen as Soldier Boy, the first thing I said was ‘I’m most excited for you, because of the amazing process you’ll go through with LJ, our Super Suit designer,’ showrunner Eric Kripke (Supernatural) said. “It took six months but the experience surpassed Jensen’s expectations. LJ has made a work of art that tips its hat to the WWII Soldier Boy from the comics, while taking it in a sleek new direction,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Concept artist Laura Jean Shannon added, “Soldier Boy is the original badass. Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree, we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality with a heavy dose of old-school cowboy swagger. We knew that the actor had to have Steve McQueen looks and chops with a John Wayne attitude, luckily Jensen Ackles embodies all of that,” via The Hollywood Reporter.
