The finale of HBO’s Stuart Fails to Save the Universe aired for its first season. According to Screenrant, creators of the show returned to the live studio audience they performed in the series, The Big Bang Theory, for the final episode.

The series was filmed in and outside of Stage 25 on the Warner Brothers lot, where they had The Big Bang Theory series produced. Chuck Lorre (The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon), Zak Penn (X-Men 2, The Avengers), and Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory, Related) covered the finale to pay homage for the original series. The show is left with many questions audiences hope season two could answer. How have they returned to the stage? What shall befall on the four characters now? How will they return to their own reality?

Lorre says: “If our characters on their adventure, on their journey, could be trapped into a comic book, they could certainly be trapped into a sitcom. I mean, we’ve gone past any boundaries of rationale, and this is a spectacularly cool thing to do, let’s do it. Can we explain it? We’re gonna try, we’re certainly going to try.”

The finale brought back key concepts that connect the series to The Big Bang Theory series. The iconic atomic model animation transition they used in between scenes from the original series appeared and a side character mentions the history of the Big Bang like the theme song. The finale also presented sitcom cliches of unimportant B-plot, fourth wall breaking, and laugh track.

They repeatedly used the same comic bookstore from the original series and brought original cast members as cameos. However, they had to film the set in different styles from classic sitcom to single camera format. It was a lot of handwork to accomplish but the experience was great for the team.
