According to a Prime Video press release, Prime Video has acquired The Baxters. LightWorkers Media will produce the series, based on the Baxter family literary franchise by author Karen Kingsbury (The Bridge, A Time To Dance, Like Dandelion Dust).
The Baxters family drama follows the lives of Elizabeth and John Baxter and their five adult children, Brooke, Kari, Ashley, Erin, and Luke. Roma Downey(Touched by an Angel, The Bible, Son of God) is set to star in the series as Elizabeth Baxter. Ted McGinley (Married…with Children, Hope and Faith, Revenge of the Nerds)will portray John Baxter. The series, filmed back in 2018, was initially intended to stream on LightWorkers Media’s platform and is now set to be exclusively available on Prime Video starting in spring 2024.
“With over 25 million fans of the Baxter series books, we know audiences are going to love this family drama brought to life, and I am personally so excited to bring more inspirational content to Prime Video,” said Downey.
The creative team includes Downey, Jessie Rosen (The Baxters, Single by 30), Will Packer (Ambitions, Night School, Girl Trip), Kevin Mann (What We Do Is Secret, More than a Game, A Band Called Death), Brendan Bragg (Life Partners, Night Owls, Sigaw), and Jaime Primak Sullivan (Jersey Belle, Breaking In, Oracle).
When asked about the series, Kingsbury said with enthusiasm. “Since the day Roma Downey asked for my blessing in making the Baxter family literary series into a televised show, I have dreamed that it might find a home on Prime Video. Many millions of readers are going to be thrilled over this news. It is a dream come true.”
