The FX Cold War Drama brought in soft ratings with its sophomore season premiere Wednesday night.
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, The Americans’ second season premiere debuted with an averaged 1.9 million viewers and 863,000 adults 18-49. These numbers are down from its previous series premiere in January of last year, which drew 3.22 million viewers, showing a 41 percent decrease. However, Wednesday night’s ratings are on par with the freshman premiere’s same-day averages of 1.85 millions viewers and 882,000 adults in the target demographic.
Though the ratings are not necessarily uncommon for FX, following successful series American Horror Story: Coven and Sons of Anarchy made The Americans seem especially low. Both AHS and Sons of Anarchy were ranked among the most-watched television shows on all of cable.
The Americans’ competition seemed to win in the Wednesday nighttime slot. NBC’s Chicago P.D. hit a series high during the 10 p.m. hour.
