Telemundo Studios is bringing back the original series El Señor de los Cielos (Lord of the Skies).
This is first time the network is bringing back a telenovela for a second season, as reporter by The Wrap,’ The first season of El Señor de los Cielos was the most successful series in the history of Telemundo. The original aired 74 episodes from April to August and it reached a total of 14.7 million viewers.
The series, inspired by a true story, tells the story of Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya), a Mexican drug lord who is dead, but rumored to be alive. The filming on location will be at a real Mexican ranch and it will recreate the period of late 1990s.
In general, telenovelas runs five nights a week for 100 to 120 episodes without additional seasons. Joshua Mintz, the executive vice president of Telemundo Studios said that, “For the first time in our history, we are leveraging the best of the novela genre with the frequency of the general market drama series. We are sure that El Señor de los Cielos production quality, cast and connection with the audience will bring us many more seasons.”
The new season will premiere in the spring of 2014.
