The highly anticipated Peacock’s Ted prequel series is on its way and its premiere date and trailer have been released. TVLine has learned that the series will premiere on Thursday, January 11th. The series was first announced in June 2021.
The comedy series will follow the original character of Ted, starring the creator of the film, Seth Macfarlane (Family Guy). It will take place 19 years before the film. The official description reads, “Ted’s moment of fame has passed, leaving him living with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (played by Parenthood‘s Max Burkholder), who lives in a working-class Boston home with his parents and cousin, Ted may not be the best influence on John, but when it comes right down to it, Ted’s willing to go out on a limb to help his friend and his family.”
The series will star MacFarlane reprising his role as the iconic stoner teddy bear, along with Scott Grimes (The Orville) Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), and Giorgia Whigham (13 Reasons Why).
Along with the announcement of the series premiere date, NBC has also released a teaser trailer depicting Ted writing a letter to his future self, hoping for a world where television doesn’t just “rehash the old stuff” and there are colonies on the moon. There is then a response from future-day Ted, who has some news for his past self, “Poor kid had so much hope.” he says, sadly informing the past Ted that the world is quite the opposite of what he wished for.
Ted originally debuted as a movie with the same title. It followed the titular bear who was brought to life by the wish of a young child. The original film starred Macfarlane, Mark Wahlberg (The Departed), and Mila Kunis (That 70s Show) and was followed by a sequel with Amanda Seyfried subbing in for Kunis as the romantic interest.
Ted will debut on Peacock on January 11. Watch the new teaser trailer below!
